Good looking fish troopers.

I went out last week and caught my first trout on a fly rod. The weather around here has been too warm for safe ice but that looks like it might be changing.
Its not huge but for the stream I caught it out of its pretty respectable.

Nice pike Drake. Did you get it on a tip up or rod and reel?

Zip I caught it on some type of scud pattern...Have you seen the fishing show City Limits Fishing show? They take this pro bass dude and put him in a city in the U.S with a local and they have to catch a limit of bass usually but it can change with each city. This last weeks episode he was in Denver shit fishing in the Platte river for carp. The local he had with him was fly fishing.

Jason, I am familiar with that show - I think Mike Iaconelli is hilarious and a great fisherman. Thanks for the heads up - I have not seen that episode and I will definitely go find it! That is awesome!!

The scud is a great pattern year round, right on!
I wish I saved the flies from my first ever fly fishing successes. I save and retire flies from epic battles but didn't start this practice until It was too late. And it is not an option if you only have 1 left and they are still biting, you got to fish it... but here are some flies that I'll never forget but ended up losing in a tree, snag or loaning to a friend to cast into a bush

Yellow spinner Wal-Mart streamer Fly - Pike - Fist fish on a fly
Grey mosquito Dry Pattern - Fist Trout on a dry fly
Olive cone head Wooly bugger - First hog trout on the Fly

Cheers!
