Fishing goals for 2010

Fishing goals for 2010

Postby capnmickey » Wed Feb 24, 2010 4:42 pm

Just wondering if anyone has set any fishing goals for the new year. I know I do every year. Feel free to share them here, here are some of mine:

Fish with more artificials from the surf and rely less on bait. Also, to move around more instead of staying married to one spot that has produced in the past.

Target larger fish in the river instead of concentrating on pure numbers/quantity. This was something I asked my charters last year before every trip. It's not very hard to go out and catch big numbers of smallmouth, getting the big girls to bite takes a little more work but is way more rewarding.

Fish as many new bodies of water as possible.

Catch a large Flathead in the Delaware.

Catch a large muskie in the Delaware.

I plan on catching as much fluke as i can this year..its my favorite kind of fishing..early morning stoned out of my mind - good diner breakfast than to the boat. I want to to try surf fishing a bit more this year also Im pretty terrible and out of practice though. My buddy's dad was thinking of buying a boat - they live in South Toms River NJ - so we plan on high-jackin that fucker..

The Muskie is always on my list of things to do. This year I'd like to win a division in the Shitfish Derby by catching a Carp one inch longer than Bens unavoidable big one. I'd also like to catch (and eat) my first Walleye. I already accomplished my first goal this year by catching a trout on fly (totally rad). So...
1) A Muskie bigger than Bens (which will be larger than Mickeys)
2) Win something from the Shitfish Derby.
3) Catch some Walleye.

since i didn't reach my goal last year...i'd like to catch a 20" brown trout. my best was 18" last year.

a shitfish! during derby play, of course....a brown bullhead catfish being the most desirable.

get either a canoe or a boat, so i stop wastin money on rentals.

I do the same thing every year, each year different than the previous..

This year for me it's
- catch a 15lb+ rainbow trout
-don't rely on roe for bait
-learn to tie my own streamers/flies
-explore locals rivers/tribs to find native brook trout

30kg plus Spanish Mackeral. Closest so far has been 27kg. Have hooked a few beasts just cant get them in the boat.

Refloor my boat

Take the 2.5yo daughter in the boat more. My reason for not taking her has been that you have to know how to swim before you can go fishing in the boat. She has just completed a year of swimming lessons.

Make better vids to show you Troopers.
It doesn’t matter to us.

Man, that reminds me, last April when I was Shad fishing one of those monster carp got tangled up in my spread and I couldn't even land him. A guy downstream of me had to net him for me when he rolled over on his side after 20 minutes. Had to be 15 lbs easily.
