Fishing gear is getting lumped in with Lead shot Shotgun shells, lead slugs and the duck (bird) hunters. The amount of lead in one shotgun shell would last me a lifetime (fly-fishing) and I do everything I can to not leave gear in the river/lake. Think about the amount of lead a group of bird hunters leave in the environment .vs a group of fisherman. It is ridiculous and they are already off the petition???

Well considering I the smallest sinker I use is 3oz...if a bird will eat that...well it might have just been a speed bump on the evolutionary road to begin.

Its a tough...I completely understand the reasoning behind this but at the same time the people who do up these things typically are un-fishing-educated pencil pushers. I wont support this unless it will encompass ammunition as well.

We are currently dealing with this bullshit in MA right now. in 2011 its going to be a 100% ban on lead based on no facts, just another piece of feel good legislation our state is known for. I have a boat full of jigs, spinnerbaits and other tackle that will be illegal next year.

My plan is to say fuck mass and spend all of my time fishing in NH next year where that stuff will be legal and the fishing is better anyway. NH does have a lead law but it targets specifically sinkers less then an ounce and less then an inch long. I use tungsten sinkers anyway and have for years, my jigs and other baits are still legal. NH put some actual thought into their law and it was actually mostly well received.
