A guy on there put together another video of some fucking giant gills. At the 2:13 mark, that is one of the gills I caught this spring. I think the my pic is shown at a pretty cool moment with the music.

I like the video... I'm looking forward to finding some big panfish on ultralight tackle soon.

I've been fishing these past few days in a midwestern carp tournament.

Im not anywhere near the leaders, but I've only put a couple of days into it. First day, I fished in 6" of fresh snow. Today, I braved 30mph winds, and 5 foot swells (big... for port washington)

so far, Ive no luck using these "pre-made" carp bait balls... They are just last year's "uncle josh's" carp bait. I've rolled them up in 1 tsp sizes balls, poked a hole in 'em with a skeewer, and threaded through a line with some cut elastic tied to the end, to keep the ball attached. Im using this pre-rolled technique to work around the trouble I have with crumbling. I tie them to the hook eye, with about 3" between the hook and the ball

Ben - I have had great success with a dough ball, hair rig. Cheap white bread and Oroweat work good for us in CO. The wheat bread is for all of the Boulder born Carp that make it to the city, hippies...

What I do: tie a hair rig up but use a small treble hook on the hair end. I use the small treble to hold the bread and I don't worry about exposed hooks on this small bait-treble - I simple use the small treble to hold on my bait. Smash the bread on the hook and make a nice compact ball without stabbing yourself. A bit smaller than a golf ball but then again you're fishing 30 pounders. I also use Power-pro line for the hair rig in case I do hook the fish on the top treble.



Anyway this is a hybrid rig that allows you to fish a big bread ball and get great hook exposure. Good luck in the tournament!

I found a great species of shit fish this past weekend.

BOWFIN! It's like an eel mated with a carp and had a prehistoric shit fish!



I wish I had a closer-up picture because it was cool. It had a bunch of really sharp needly teeth and a dorsal tail that wrapped around the entire back of the fish to the anal fin.

I said anal fin, huh huh.
