Sparras Newry Island Trip

Sparras Newry Island Trip

Postby sparrajuana! » Wed Feb 10, 2010 3:42 pm

Myself and my first mate/anchor bitch Shaneo hit the water at 4am and got strait into the fishing. We got stuck into a school of small mouth nanniguy and managed about 40 over two hours. Unfortunately none were of legal size (min. 40cm) but most were very close.
We then headed over to a small reef where mackerel were herding herring up over the reef. I threw the cast net and got some live herring. Time after time the macks would scream up to our baits then turn off at the last second. It was very frustrating.
I did however tempt this Sweetlip which was the only keeper fish for the weekend.

We caught heaps of undersize and shit fish.
The vid below shows Shaneo battling a nice shovelnose shark. He was way under gunned. Check out some of the bends and angles of his rod. He played it for nearly an hour. The rod shattered on the very next fish.

That arvo the clouds built up and wind howled. At 11pm we got smashed by a thunder storm which trashed our tent. We got soaked, my smokes got wet and somehow I broke my camera.
Oh well, we still had a great time with heaps of laughs. Oh yeah on the way home my trailer tyre blew out and my spare was in the shed at home. Ha!
It doesn’t matter to us.

Hey Moth - it busted the line. Camping is great. You can see our tent in the background when we are close to the beach.

Great footage Spar. Looks like an amazing trip. You need to have shit like your tent exploding for it to be a true success. That's the way all my trips usually turn out to be the most memorable.
