Im guessing you guys know about Albert Mcreynolds . I did not. What a great read.

My favourite quote - A lot of people said to us, “Are you crazy? Are you nuts?” ’Cause we fish in bad weather, when it’s storming or raining. It doesn’t matter to us.

Yeah Spar - He's known around here as a legend. I used to live in Brigantine for 4 years where that bass was taken. We lived in the last house on Brigantine's northern most point. We had 270 degree unobstructed view of the ocean and bay. It was really amazing living out there. Especially when it stormed. We would get pummeled. We used to go drinking at the Beach Bar where they had Al's striper on display. That was one damn big striper.

That is one of the most controversial fish ever landed. There are a lot of people around the Jersey shore that don't believe his story and get very angry at the mention of that fish. Part (or most) of the problem is Al himself, he's not a very bright (or friendly) guy. Normally this isn't a crime but it seems like every time he opens his mouth he puts his foot in it. Sort of like Pete Rose, if he had any humility at all he'd probably be coaching MLB right now. I'm of the opinion that he caught the fish fair and square and has exaggerated the story so many different ways that it has made skeptics and haters out of many people.

Take note Troopers, you may not want to catch a world record (Dave).

I met that guy a couple of times at the "T" Jetty on the north end of Atlantic City. Looked like he was living out of his camper. He came off as pretty grumpy and condescending at first, but once he got the feeling that I didn't care who he was and just wanted to talk about fishing, he had a lot of interesting things to say. I actually am pretty sure he caught that fish on the Vermont St. Jetty, whch is the next one South of the T Jetty. Nowadays and for the past 15 years the Vermont St Jetty has transformed into a big pile of Rocks spaced out in such a way that it is way easier to fish next to than from the top of. The T Jetty is great, though, with beach to the south, a deep drop off to the inlet to the north, and lots of structure in the transition from one to the other. You can catch big fish of almost every endemic species there at the right time of year... even big triggerfish in the late summer.

There is also a huge amount of controversy surrounding the world record Smallie caught by David Hayes.Although it has been reinstated it's kind of a mute point because something like the next 5 biggest ever caught were out of Dale Hollow.....
